WINNER - 2005 COLUMBINE FILM PRODUCTION AWARD / WINNER - 2002 COLUMBINE AWARD for BEST SHORT STORY, filmmaker ROSALEE MAYEUX marks her documentary debut with the filming of COYOTE NIGHTS-LA. This vibrant story of teenage life in the suburbs of Los Angeles chronicles the lives of her own two sons, then broadens to other teens. From the Palisades to the Valley, its a wake up call for parents and a shout out to their kids.
Mayeux begins her documentary with a chilling note left on her refrigerator, "Dear Kids, Taking your dealer to lunch -- Want to find out why you’re closer to him than to me -- Back in time for dinner, Xxoo's, Mom. " With that decision Mayeux ventures out into Los Angeles to ask the questions: How did this happen? Was I wrong to think I could go it alone? Is pot that dangerous after all? How did they even get drugs?
Audiences who’ve seen excerpts from the film say: “Not my kids.” But the kids say: “Oh dude! It’s so like that out there!” “How do you fight The War on Drugs when it’s in your own family?” -- Michael Douglas, Traffic. Mayeux agrees. “I wrote Coyote Nights for the dads who’ve lost a daughter to drugs and are raising a grandson. I wrote this for single moms who feel like they’re losing the battle in their own homes with their six foot teenagers. And I wrote this for the kids who won’t tell us how hard it is out there, how seductive, but somehow, they want us to know.”
Coyote Nights - LA is currently in production in Los Angeles. For more information, to participate in the filming, or simply to ask questions, contact the filmmaker, Rosalee Mayeux, SAH Productions, Los Angeles office: 213.399.9597.
